A doctor friend of mine, Dr. Debra Hensel, was giving me some advice related to making my gall bladder a bit more efficient/effective. She's one of our all-time favorite sources for health because of her deep understanding of the various organs in the body and how they all work together (aka: anatomy and physiology). Whenever we have a real brain teaser re: health and can't figure out what a certain symptom could be related to, we'll ask her and she's almost always got the answer which fixes the problem.
But when she said "get off of sugar", I was a little bummed. I mean, I don't gorge on the stuff daily or anything, but I like the occasional desert or a couple of Newman's ginger creme cookies. (Hey, they're organic okay?).
So I queried the suggestion a bit and asked her if she just meant "stay off sugar all the time" or only while I was fixing this little gall bladder thing.
Her reply was "all the time". She also sent me a list of the top 10 reasons why this is the case. We're still working on weaning our family off the menace completely, but meanwhile I thought I'd share the data with you guys. Here's the document (Word doc): Download 10_reasons_to_avoid_sugar.doc
By the way, if you're in the L.A. area, you probably know Dr. Hensel, but if not, you should. She's the best and kids love her. She is in Orange County near the I-5, but it is worth the drive (do Saturday a.m. appointments if you can..almost no traffic). Holistic Health Center, (714) 669-8845.
