On a whim I decided
to look for myself at what stats I could find on suicides for the Teenscreen age
group. Link: N C H S - FASTATS - Suicide.
Death rates for suicide, according to sex, race, Hispanic origin, and age: selected years 1950-2002 Health, United States, 2005, table 46

"In its coverage of informed parental consent for psychiatric screening, The Republic has it wrong. The fact is that mental health screening of schoolchildren is not a religious issue. It's not even a partisan issue as the vote tally on these types of bills shows.
"Your comments that our lawmakers need to listen to more than one side ignores the fact that mental health lobbyists backed by millions of pharmaceutical dollars have already pushed for government support to adopt their agenda. The federal New Freedom Commission on Mental Health Initiative is an existing plan to have all Americans screened for mental illness.
"Scary? You bet! It's a direct assault on privacy and personal liberties. Our health care system is supposed to be an elective process for the "patient." Yet the psychiatric industry seems to be bent on enforcing their ideologies on every citizen by trying to keep people ignorant of the dangers of these drugs.
"I herald the support of informed legislators who create and back legislation that protects informed consent.
"I am not a Scientologist. My problem is with the psychiatric industry trying to shove their philosophies down my throat and then whining about legislation that will protect my right to choose for my children." Rebecca Noble, Queen Creek [Arizona]
The inventor (conjurer, really) of Teenscreen was scheduled to debate the evidence behind his program. At the last minute, he backed out. What did he have to hide?

Suicides in the given [demographic group] are less now than they were in 1981, reaching their highest peak in 1988. So, pray tell, why is there a “crisis” now when there obviously wasn’t in the peak year of 1988?
Boy, you can't take your eyes of these guys for second, let me tell you.
Here's my letter to the editor in response to David Shern's whining in today's Tampa Trib article:
When I see shills for big pharma like David Shern get all weepy about "suicide prevention" my personal Bullspit Detector goes on red alert.
If Mr. Shern, who has deep ties to the makers of the highly addictive and profitable drugs, could have his way, we'd all be getting screened from birth for made-up mental illnesses until we die or our insurance runs out, whichever comes last.
Lots of negative comments re: Teenscreen at the end of this article. Maybe people are catching on finally.
Imagine your teenager comes home from school looking depressed. You ask what’s wrong. She says, “Oh, it’s just my social anxiety disorder.” What?
Yes, she tells you, she has social anxiety disorder. And also obsessive compulsive disorder.
What are you talking about, you ask? Who is telling you this?
They told me at school!

TeenScreen also recommends bribing kids with movie passes or gift certificates for pizza parlors.
Passive Consent is another trick TeenScreen uses to get around the law which requires obtaining a valid parental consent. Passive consent requires parents to return a form only if they do not want their child to participate in the screening. In Oregon, one NAMI member complained that consent forms were being returned with a large "NO" scribbled across the paper.
Forgot to mention, again, that there's a lot more information on this subject here.

School kids are being conned into taking a survey full of loaded questions and the results are being used to convince parents their children are mentally ill and need dangerous brain-damaging drugs
More and more blogs seem to be speaking up about this madness called Teenscreen. Have you checked to see if your school already has the program? Is your child's normal behaviour being screened using "passive consent" or is he/she being enticed to participate in the screening with goodies? These pushers will stop at nothing. It's best if you check it out yourself.

"TeenScreen is planting the seed of mental illness in the minds of children. School kids are being conned into taking a survey full of loaded questions and the results are being used to convince parents their children are mentally ill and need dangerous brain-damaging drugs.
All children at times feel depressed or different from others, or not smart enough, or not good-looking enough. This is normal adolescent thinking. The TeenScreen survey asks whether the child has ever felt this way and phrases questions to solicit one answer, yes. It takes advantage of impressionable kids when it raises questions about normal feelings."
