I'm sitting here working in a restaurant and can't help but overhear three drug reps collaborating on a project. They are working on what sounds like a presentation to a group of doctors they are planning on doing at the end of the week. There are lots of folders around and impressive looking brochures for their drug (sounds like it's an antibiotic). And they are impeccably dressed. The guys both look like they just bought their shoes about 5 minutes ago and the woman is incredibly well manicured. They are obviously very well paid.
As they work through what they are going to say at this presentation, I'm hearing phrases like:
"...what if we told them something like 'doctor, we don't expect you to use it on every patient, but certainly on the ones which need it..."
At some point the medical establishment lost their grip on health. It's all about drugs at this point and the drug reps are the ones in the driver's seat. Since when does a drug rep qualify to even imply the proper use for a drug or which patients should or shouldn't get it?
Our pediatrician is a good lady and she is doing her best, but I about all she does for our kids these days is dispense antibiotics. There's no talk of nutrition or anything which might make for a healthier child on a preventative kind of basis.
This troubles me a great deal. We don't get sick because we are suffering from drug deficiencies. By the time we have come to the point where a patentable chemical has to be ingested, we have already let things go way to far.
