This area of technology is interesting to me because I think this sort of tech is just a very early precursor to our having largely "bionic" bodies. As our fleshy parts fail or are removed because of accidents, we will find more and more our options include the installation of man-made parts. These replacement parts aren't, of course, ready for prime time, but it is only a matter of time, in my opinion. This sort of surgery here simply proves the medicos know enough about the human body to attach things to it.
