Okay, I should have taken a picture of them and tonight when I get home, I will. I'll either take one of the actual pumpkin bread loaves my wife bakes, or the smiling face of someone devouring it.
Someone always asks for the recipe and if we could give it out, we probably would. The only trouble is, it's a secret. ...
Back in the 70s when her dad was in the Coast Guard in Key West, Christine's mom was more or less bored out of her mind. So she did a lot of cooking and baking. One of the guys in the USCG with her hubby gave her the recipe for this amazing pumpkin bread (and some macaroons I like to call "crack-a-roons", they are so good) but swore her to secrecy--that she would keep it in the family.
Tasting these delectables every year helps me to understand why--they are some of the best baked goods I have ever eaten.
On the other hand, leaking the recipe could actually contribute toward world peace--so there's always that to to consider.
Meanwhile, if you're looking for something yummy to impress your friends and family at the next holiday dinner, this is the first time my wife (or even her mom) has ever made the pumpkin bread available for sale. It may be the last too, we'll see. Meanwhile, get 'em while they're fresh at a mere $5/loaf!
